peace has always been an oasis in a sea of continuing conflict even the bible glorifies war and land acquisition there is no negotiation in the bible; people work things out with force or fury or by sacrificing themselves to someone else's force or fury peace is something else than force or self sacrifice peace is balance balance is complicated and continuous balance must recognize the power of all forces acting upon it balance must integrate all forces acting upon it balance cannot afford the time to judge the merits of the case before taking action balance is action - - peace is action peace cannot afford the time to judge others before taking action peace must integrate all forces acting upon it which include forces of aggression; integrating aggression does not necessarily mean giving in or fighting back - look for alternatives in the moments as they present themselves peace must recognize the power of all the forces acting upon it, including those forces of aggression and passivity - aggression seeks to steal your energy quickly, passivity seeks to steal your energy slowly peace is a complicated and continuous self discipline which, if enough people practice, can become more than just an oasis in a sea of rage, manipulation and hatred peace is balancing the forces within and the forces without, nested equations, complex fractions, never solved, continuously recalculating, like a compass or a thermometer, adjusting for conditions, maintaining |
