Bicycle Regulations

Bicycle accidents are subject to all of the same traffic laws as are motor vehicles.

Bicycles must have lights at night.

Bicycles must use a lane of traffic.

Bicycles must yield at yield at signs, stop at stop signs and stop at red lights.

Bicycles must ride as far to the right as possible.

Bicycles must travel with no more than two abreast.

Bicycles must not ride on the shoulders of any controlled access freeway (IH-35, Mo-Pac, Hwy 183, Ben White)

In the City of Austin, motor vehicles cannot drive in a bike lane, but they may park in one (city ordinance).
