Task

You are a member of a team of experts that has been assigned the task of researching and evaluating the population trends of a particular country for presentation to the United Nations Commission on Population and Development (http://www.undp.org/popin/unpopcom.htm) in April, 2001.

Your team will create a visual representation of the country's population growth over the last 50 years and predict population in the next 10 years.

The visual representations you create will be incorporated into an oral presentation before the U.N.

You may use the graphing tools available on the web sites in the Process and Countries section or a spreadsheet program like Excel to create the visual representations. They may be in the form of a pie graph, line graph, histogram, etc.

After researching your country and its population issues and creating your graphs, answer the following general questions for your presentation to the U.N. --

1) Should population be a concern for this country? Why or why not?
2) Is this country's leadership concerned with population? If so, what has it doen about its concerns?
3) How will the population affect this country (fuel, food, land, money, exports, etc.)?
4) Do you think a country's government should enforce population growth measures?

There may also be other specifc questions to be answered for each country in the Countries section below.

Finally, all the teams should discuss their findings as a group and compare and contrast the findings for each of the countries after the presentations to the U.N.
